Scheduled - Throughout the Summer, beginning the week of May 19th, 2025, JMU Networking will be going through the process of updating and replacing the Access Points (AP) inside all the buildings across campus. These replacements have been scheduled in advance, and have been coordinated in conjunction with EMS, Summer Camps, FM maintenance schedules, and communicated through their respected Building and/or Technology Coordinators. Please note that this only impacts wireless connectivity.

Starting July 14th through July 18th, IT Networking technicians will be on-site, alongside networking contractors to replace access points in offices, classrooms, conference rooms and other areas. The area’s they will be working in will be as follows:

1593 S, Main (Dining Services Warehouse)
1595 S. Main (Motor Pool Alt. Fuel)
1598 South Main (Breeze)
1599 S. Main
1603 S. Main (Motor Pool Garage)
AUBC
East Campus Dining
Alumnae

Actions that may be required:

Reconnect to Wi-Fi: Please note that as access points are being changed, connectivity may be intermittent or delayed. Users may need to disconnect and reconnect to the wireless network to restore connectivity. In some instances, it may be necessary to forget the network and re-add it. If issues persist users may need to restart their computer.

Detailed instructions on connecting to the network and forgetting/re-adding the network can be found in the IT Knowledgebase by searching “How to Connect to JMU-Official-Wireless,” or by clicking the “Announcement” related to the access point replacement project. Should reconnection issues persist, please contact the JMU IT Helpdesk at helpdesk@jmu.edu or by phone at 540-568-3555

Scheduled Maintenance

Campus Wide Network Maintenance - Sunday, July 27th 6am-12pm Jul 27, 2025 06:00-12:00 EDT

Network Services will be replacing the existing DHCP servers on Sunday, July 27th between 6am and 12pm. This will affect devices connected to both the wired and wireless JMU networks. During the maintenance, devices that are already connected to the network and have valid IP addresses are not expected to be disrupted. Devices that attempt to connect to the network during the maintenance may not receive an IP address. Once the migration is complete, devices should be able to receive an IP address and regain network access. A device/computer reboot is recommended if there are any connectivity issues experienced at the conclusion of the maintenance.
