Campus Wide Network Maintenance - Sunday, May 24th 6am-12pm May 24, 2026 06:00-12:00 EDT

On Sunday, May 24th between 6am and 12pm, the JMU wired networks will be upgraded. This will affect all network connectivity (wired and wireless) across campus as the rolling upgrades are performed.

Please note that the Boldyn networks in the dorms, the public facing wireless network at AUBC, and the JMU data center networks will not be affected during the upgrades.

E-mail, file system access and direct access to Canvas will NOT be affected during this time and those systems will be available for use. An alert will be posted as soon as all work is completed and systems are available for use on a consistent basis.

Investigating - Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, has notified JMU that the university was impacted by a widespread data breach affecting thousands of institutions.

Instructure has informed JMU and other impacted universities that it has taken steps to secure the platform, including remediating the underlying vulnerability. Additionally, Instructure has engaged a third-party forensics firm for an investigation and notified law enforcement authorities. As a result of the incident, Canvas is currently inaccessible as Instructure takes measures to remediate the situation.

We are working with Instructure to learn more about the impact of the incident and will provide updates when additional information is available.
